We had to pleasure of sitting down with Tom’s parents and talking about his autistic brother John. John is the fourth of four children and is 13 years younger than Tom (the eldest of the kids). John is 22 years old now and his parents have a wealth of stories and insight into the disorder, living with an autistic child, and how they dealt with the school system and doctors. This is great listening for all parents but in particular for parents of autistic children. This will be a multipart discussion so look for three more installments in the coming weeks. This installment deals with how they “discovered” that John was autistic, how they got him diagnosed, and the first steps they took.
