OurFirstMarriage #10: Interview with Parents of an Autistic Child, Part 2

We continue our discussion with Tom’s parents about his autistic brother John. Discussion includes the testing John went through during his diagnosis, some of the relationship help they received, early education choices and dealing with and affecting the education system, TEACCH, and the beginning of the discussion of the strategies that worked with John. More on strategies in the following weeks. We’ve got a little of the audio Tom recorded one night with John on here though we had a lot more than we thought. We’ll be adding the rest in the coming Podcasts. Also, look below for links to Autism resources and forums. Thanks for listening and we’ll see you next week!

Great job with John.
I think I’ll write the company that makes the stuffed boxers and see if they will make a long tail and give it to Santa for John.

That’s what I was going to suggest. It’s really just the long tail that is the issue. I’m not sure it matters all the much to him what it looks like as long as it resembles a boxer. And for those that aren’t in the know, Boxer tails are cropped. Tallulah’s tail was cropped but it was exceptionally long for a boxer. Since she wasn’t a show dog, we never had it fixed. So instead of a 2 or 3 inch tail it was a 4 or 5 inch tail. Kinda hard to find something like that in a mass produced stuffed animal.
