OurFirstMarriage #17: Birthday Parties

We talk about Noah’s first true birthday party (year 3), this year’s party (year 4), and another party we attended this weekend. Lots of lessons learned, helpful hints, and acts of God. A trip to Kinko’s is discussed along with the joys of people not RSVPing until the last minute. While not a comprehensive list, this Podcast should be a good jumping off point for thought and discussion. See you next week!

Ah, the joys of birthday parties. Here’s a tip - birthday parties are for suckers. Allow your kids to invite ONE friend to do something cool. Everyone’ll have more fun, you will save yourself a serious chunk of change, AND you won’t be surrounded by other people’s screaming rugrats.

Ever since we started our ‘birthdays are a special time just for family and your very closest friends’ things have been muuuuuch easier.

You make a good point Sam. I’m not sure how long you’all’ve (that’s a word down here) been in Texas but we are relatively new around here. Finding friends tends to be a bit difficult. Birthday parties can be useful in that you are meeting people usually about your age, with at least one kid that is the age of one of your kids, and you’ve got a built in topic to discuss (school). In the future I’m sure we’ll gravitate toward the smaller/no party paradigm (not a word down here). But wasn’t Kim making Cakes for a while? I assumed that was for parties.

Hey..if Sam is there, it IS a party! We have 5 people in our family so the cakes get eaten..I just don’t make ‘em huge. If you are curious, I’ve posted pics of a couple of them on our website.

I saw the pics. Looks great. Sam, cake, podcasting… throw in a little rum and I’m there! :)
