Christmas shopping

Tis the season! And when you’ve got little kids, what a joy it is to go shopping for them. We’re not the type that flood are kids with toys all year round. We also don’t have grandparents or other extended family members who shower our kids with unneeded toys (thankfully!). So I love shopping for them for Christmas.

The first year or two of Noah’s life, we didn’t do much in the way of Christmas gifts for him – nor did we spend Christmas at home. So when his 3rd Christmas rolled along (he was 2.5 years old), we started to really think about things. The way I come up with what to buy is to do some research on shopping sites like amazon.com. I look at the ratings and the user comments. In my opinion, the user comments are invaluable.

Amazon is set up so that you can make a Wish List, or even lists for particular people. I skip the lists for particular people and put everything on my Wish List. Then I’ll show my Wish List to Tom who will give me his opinions. We then make purchases in stores or online. Honestly, I just find it so much easier just to purchase online. I always try to get the free shipping option from amazon and look for any other discounts I can. If amazon doesn’t have it, or it seems particularly expensive, I’ll shop around at other websites (toys r us, walmart, target are some I used). In fact, for one of the items I found on amazon, the shipping was going to be $25, so I just went to the website that amazon showed and ordered it directly from them with a shipping cost of $5.

My advice – make your list using amazon.com. You can then comparison shop and find the best prices at other websites or actual stores.
