It’s the illness time of year

And as sick as the kids have been this week (especially Noah), I couldn’t ask for a better turnout. Neither of them ended up on antibiotics this time around. Seeing that Kellan had 10 ear infections in the first 21 months of his life, I got used to going to the pediatrician for every runny nose and usually going home with antibiotics. And no, I’m not that kind of mom! I’m the mom that was always trying to convince the pediatrician to wait it out and see what happens. Their usual answer was “no - you don’t want to try that with a 2 week old baby”, and such. Oh yeah, I have a little bit of crazy in me too - who in the world would not want to treat their 2 week old baby for an ear infection? After the first 4 or 5 ear infections, I figured out that it was much, much easier to get the script at the beginning. Of course I tried a bunch of other things too - chiropractors, massage, limiting dairy, and other stuff. Nothing worked.

One time, I was so excited that my baby merely had a virus and didn’t have to go on antibiotics, the doctor commented that she’d never seen a parent that excited about it. She said most parents prefer to take the script and medicate the kids. Really? Do those people really exist?

Kellan got tubes about 6 weeks ago and hasn’t been to the pediatrician one time since. He even had a fever this past week and got over it without.

So my advice regarding illnesses: don’t be crazy about the antibiotics - for or against; don’t be afraid to take your kid to the doctor to get the proper diagnoses; do your research; and of course breastfeed as long as you can.
