OurFirstMarriage #75: The Vegan Lobby

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Tanel starts off with a PSA. Being able to cook is not girly. Tom’s cooking is discussed. Check your tires. Tanel and Tom had guests over for dinner - it went well. Punkalicious is not into pretending. Turns out that town Tanel was trying to remember was Chihuahua. Tom has a speech impediment. Tanel is bi-lingually PC. Broccoli tastes like ass. Is meat important to our culture? Tom thinks so. Why are kids fat? Tom’s making friends on IHMMB.com. Not. All that just to make a geeky joke. Who would have known that sarcasm could engender this sort of reaction? The sub-prime mortgage “crisis” discussion is started. Look for more on that next time. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us on Podcast Alley. Want to know more about Tanel, Tom, Punkalicious, or Captain Evil? Click here.

You ask two great questions that you don’t mean to be related, but I think their answers are. Why are kids fat? and What’s the sub-prime crisis all about?

Easy answer. Stupid people, and the companies that exploit them. We can take this to the far left and rail about evil corportations, or go the other way and talk about thinning out the gene pool. Reality is somewhere in the middle of course. I’m not saying that kids are fat because they are stupid, but most fat kids are fat because they have stupid parents. And while I agree with Tom that exercise is a key factor rather than diet, Chef Boyardee will get you fat alot faster than baloney sandwiches. Not that those are the only choices, thank god, because both Tom and I would have passed on long ago it they were.

And yes, I’m sure there are situations where it makes financial sense to get an ARM, and MAYBE even an interest-only loan, but not many. The stupid people focus on short-term cash flow and some pipe dream for the future and mortage companies are only too happy to oblige. Guess what, everyone loses, the stupid people lose their house, and the mortage companies are stuck with overvalued property which doesn’t spend very easily.

I’m sorry if I have offended by my over-generalization of stupid people. Not all fat kids have stupid parents, and not all people who have gone through a foreclosure are stupid… Not all, but most…

Speaking of food and cooking, Tom do you have a traditional oven or a convection? My oven took a crapper last week and I am now the owner of a convection oven. 20-30% reduction in cooking time is super cool, but what does that mean for all my recipies? Back to the drawing board. I’m not looking forward to a bunch of overcooked food while I work through it.

Pat - point one - agreed. Wholeheartedly.

Point two - Traditional. My parents have a dual convection ovens that can also be used without the convection turned on. Since I rarely bake, it isn’t so much of an issue for me.
