The soccer “mom” sounds totally out of line to me. Unless my son is disrupting the game in some way, I’m usually happy to leave it to the coaches - although I’m more than willing to support the coach by making him sit out and/or correcting him if he is misbehaving.
It is completely ridiculous to have some parent jumping in to referee a bunch of 5 year olds - particularly to yell at anyone other than their own kid.
I do want to hear how tee-ball is - J says he’s sick of soccer and wants to play baseball!

I’ve read three of the Stephanie Meyers books - I thought they were fun too. I’m totally into the whole vampire/werewolf aspect of these books, even though some fantasy purists complain because Meyers doesn’t follow normal vampire conventions - the main family of vampires in this series isn’t burned by sunlight, etc.
Thanks for the suggestion about “On Writing.” I had a very similar experience with Stephen King. I read all of his early stuff in high school and loved it - and still have fond memories of his short stories. The last novel I really liked was The Stand. I barely made it through It, and pretty much gave up on him with Tommyknockers - it was a big, loooong, snooze. And I didn’t even attempt Gunslinger. But I do think it is really interesting when writers talk about writing… Jane Smiley has a book about the novel (she wrote it while she had writers block and couldn’t finish her own novel) that is pretty cool, and Michael Chabon has a recent book about writing that I have on my list.
