Hiya,
Sorry its been a while since I posted don’t seem to have any time for anything since Bobette Jr (now 4 months old)arrived!! Really enjoying your shows lots of interesting and entertaining topics and stories. I am breastfeeding Bobette Jnr (as I did Bob Jnr) she started off pretty well four hourly feeds wooohoo! But now she enjoys snacking all evening hence I don’t get time to do much…
Tanel had some stories about advice given to mothers which led to them giving up breastfeeding and I had a similar experience with my first baby although I didn’t give up. A breastfeed councillor came to visit me soon after he was born and said he should be feeding for 40mins at a time (he was doing 10-15mins and then falling asleep). She told me to change is nappy and undress him to keep him awake longer and feed less frequently. When I acted upon this advice he started losing weight and throwing up some feeds so I decide to go with my instincts and feed him little and often just as he wanted and he gained weight rapidly. I never looked back and he turned into a chubby healthy baby.
I think you need good support to breastfeed successfully as it can be really hard going and draining especially with night feeds.
Thanks for the great podcasts keep up the good work.

That’s a great “listen to your child” story. Experts too often are only experts of averages – of what most kids do. Unfortunately, kids don’t know they are supposed to follow those rules (damn them ;) ). Books and experts are good at letting you know what to expect in general and to perhaps make suggestions that you might not have thought of. But when your child tells you something different, you know who to listen to.

Thanks for sharing your story Bobette.
