bigbob I decided to ask SmallBob (3) questions about his bedtime stories as I read through them tonight following your discussion on this. Usually I just read the stories pretty much straight through, but this new approach led to interesting (but maybe predictable) results. Questions like “What is happening to Thomas?” were answered with “I don’t know”, and questions like “What does ‘porthole’ mean?” were answered with “I don’t know”. I think it quickly became his automatic response without any thought, but each question led to a good discussion and/or explanation. I term it as ‘interesting results’ because it does seem I assumed he understood more than I realised. I shall be carrying on with this new approach, and be encouraging him to think a little before just saying “I don’t know”!

I see (hear) what you are saying Egr – Tanel’s volume is low. That’s an ooVoo issue, nothing I can do about that. it isn’t that way on the audio version of the podcast (which I do control).
