About Tom
Tom just wanted to do a podcast. That’s all. He didn’t want to set up a website or learn that language that Word Press is built on. He doesn’t have time for all that. He doesn’t understand HTML and podcast tracking software and servers and ftp and all that. He just wanted to do a podcast. And now he’s doing all this other crap so that him and his wife can do this podcast and Tanel can have her blog. So before you go hating him for the misogynist egomaniac he comes off as, remember… um… ok, forget it, nothing excuses that.
Tom has a Masters in Psychology with a specialization in Organizational Development and Evaluation. Evaluation is essentially research so when Tom brings up statistics and data and stuff, he can’t help it. They made him think that way. Tom likes to think of himself as a pragmatist but he’s more cynical than anything. Honesty (even the brutal kind) is important to him and he tries to be honest with himself and those around him. Sometimes, that gets him into trouble. He now writes for Audioholics and podcasts at AV Rant (as if you weren’t already getting enough of Tom).
Tom loves his wife and kids above all things and strives to be the best father and husband he can be. Striving isn’t always succeeding however and he’s found that he’s got a lot of learning to do when it comes to how to succeed at both. His commitment to the truth (especially being truthful with himself about his failings and challenges), his analytical mind, and his intense desire to succeed in all things (including his family) has created a somewhat stressed, often intense father. If it weren’t for his ability to make them laugh through his self-deprecating and sarcastic sense of humor they would have thrown him out ages ago.
So if he comes off as a jerk… well… sometimes he is. But know that a woman like Tanel wouldn’t put up with his crap if there wasn’t an undercurrent of intense and selfless love and a dedication to her and her children’s happiness. Love him. Love to hate him. We don’t care. Just listen. Listen to the podcast and listen to your child.
