Yikes - lice!
In the nursery, we dealt with rotavirus and the ubiquitous runny nose. In preschool, it was mostly colds, with a little bit of hand, foot, and mouth disease thrown in to mix things up. Since my oldest daughter started kindergarten this year, we have a new contagion to worry about - lice!!

100th Episode and New Poll
On the right you’ll notice a new poll. We’ve got the 100th episode coming up soon. We’d like to do something a little special. Please vote and let us know what you think you could do. Generally, we podcast after the kids go to bed (around 10pm) on Friday or Saturday night but for this special occasion, we perhaps could do it at a different time that is more convenient for everyone. We know that Pat and Theresa are planning on coming up to be on the podcast but we were wondering what the rest of our listeners would like to do.
We’ve done live shows before on Ustream where our listeners can watch while we record the podcast and we answer questions afterwords but we could probably do some sort of Skypecast or video conference thing to get more people involved. If you are interested in being on the show somehow, email me (you know the address) and let me know what time on the weekends works for you in general. As long as we record it before the day it is supposed to be posted (even if it is recorded a few weeks early) we’ll be OK. We look forward to hearing from you.

A point of clarification. Another Iron Chef - OFM episode and a “warning” from Tom. This time the ingredients were Spinach and Chicken. Tom ended up creating a spinach pesto which he stuffed into chicken breasts and grilled. Contact Tom for the full recipe. Tanel attended a meeting at Punkalicious’ new school. Turns out there is some sort of contamination in the soil. Lead and arsenic. So, are they pulling their kid out of the school? Heck no. Internet Searching 2: Google rocks!
Everyone starts their research with Google, right? In my last post, I mentioned that I always start with Google, and talked a little bit about clarifying search terms to make my search as successful as possible. Searching is definitely an acquired skill; having a good general vocabulary as well as a good grasp of terminology in your search area helps.
But Google can help too – Google has a number of built-in tools that can really make a difference. “Ten tips for smarter Google searches” is a great article posted on InformIT that lists the following tips:

OurFirstMarriage #80: Quantity vs Quality
A short technical discussion about why OFM sounds better than ever (not that we got complaints but that’s Tom). The rules for Iron Chef - OFM are discussed and opened up to the peanut gallery (that’s you). Tom asks Tanel a serious question. Tom shares a story about a restaurant so bad that he recognized it as such before he even knew what good food was. In reference to food - Quantity does not equal Quality. Iron Chef - Andry gets a new challenge - and Tom’s not happy about it. Tom has a factoid that may or may not have to do with sex. Gifted programs and research dollars.
